With new book, Dot pastor aims to inspire

Last Saturday, following the season’s first snowstorm, Pastor Dianne Van Der Meer-Kelley spent the day worrying about how homeless Bostonians were coping with the inclement weather.

For Van Der Meer, thinking of others in need comes naturally — she has spent most of her life giving back to others, both through her ministry and in her personal life.

Mass. tech group assists Ugandan health workers

In recent years, technological innovations have helped bring political, economic and social advances to many countries in the developing world. One Watertown-based nonprofit is following suit and contributing to the spread of critical health care services throughout Africa.

Through its “Health in Hand” project, the Academy for Educational Development (AED)-SATELLIFE Center for Health Information and Technology provides health workers in Uganda with handheld computers that give them access to medical information needed for disease prevention, diagnosis and treatment.

Report: CVS gives raw deal to urban shoppers

Local community leaders took part last week in a nationwide consumer advocacy effort to voice serious concerns about the business practices of CVS Caremark Corp.

Chief among the problems are claims that the Woonsocket, R.I.-based drugstore chain doesn’t provide communities of color with equal access to its stores or to the same quality of products available in other areas.
