Transforming the Roxbury Community

Community leaders and area residents gathered in Roxbury July 20 to celebrate the completion of “Twenty at Luma,” a new development of 20 affordable homes for first time low and moderate income home buyers. I had a chance to tour three of the homes. Anyone who has a chance to buy one is considered very lucky. All the homes have three floors with three or four spacious rooms and two bathrooms. Two-bedroom homes will sell for $135,000 and three bedroom homes for $150,000. That’s a steal in this economy!

Why Africa Vogue is considered out of fashion

For the last few months, famed Cameroonian photographer Mario Epanya has been on a campaign to convince Vogue publisher Condé Nast to create an African version of its hallmark magazine. He went as far as creating fictitious magazine covers, featuring models from the African Diaspora. Apparently, Epanya’s bid was rejected by Condé Nast, according to an announcement recently on his Facebook page.

Conversation with Alex Scott of the Boston Breakers

I had a chance to catch up with Boston Breakers player Alex Scott June 24 while she was practicing at Harvard Stadium with other team members. Scott has been playing the sport most of her short life and said she is loving every minute of it. Scott also made it to the 2007 FIFA Women’s World Cup in China and the 2005 and 2009 UEFA European Women’s Championships.
