Brandy Cruthird of Body By Brandy received a $25,000 donation from Citizens Bank Oct. 19 to go towards her nonprofit, BodyByBrandy4Kidz, which is the only kids-focused gym facility and fitness program in the nation that offers free health programs for inner-city families.
Supporters for Green-Rainbow party gubernatorial candidate Dr. Jill Stein joined volunteers for other campaigns at Faneuil Hall Oct. 20 for the AARP candidates’ forum. Stein, along with follow green activist Grace Ross, is a perennial political candidate. She previously ran unsuccessfully for governor in 2002, the state House of Representatives in 2004 and secretary of the Commonwealth in 2006. Stein did win a town hall seat in Middlesex County in 2005 and re-elected in 2008.
Nearly 15,000 strong gathered early in front of the Hynes Convention Center Oct. 16 just to get a glimpse of President Barack Obama, who was in town in support of Gov. Deval Patrick’s re-election bid and other Massachusetts Democratic candidates running for office. As expected, all the people I spoke to enthusiastically supported Obama’s job performance, stating mainly that they believe he is still “cleaning up the mistakes” of the Bush administration.
The Patrick/Murray campaign held a rally attended by approximately 100 enthusiastic supporters Oct 10 in Roxbury’s Hibernian Hall. A running theme with all the supporters I spoke to was that they felt that Patrick has made strides on key issues, such as jobs, health care and education.
I noticed that there is an obvious racial divide among gubernatorial supporters. I have attended many Patrick campaign sponsored events in the last couple of months, which have been the most racially diverse. However, I have also attended events sponsored by Republican gubernatorial candidate Charlie Baker, where I am the only person of color in the room.
